My 4lb. yorkie Lucy was attacked by my Jack Russel Terrier and nearly died. Her jugular vein was torn and she lost so much blood for such a tiny dog. I rushed her to my vet and she was in and out of consciousness the whole way there. I thought I was surely going to lose her. The vet said she needed a transfusion, and he wasnt set up to do them. He referred me to an emergency hospital several miles away. I just broke down and said I didn't think she would survive the drive there. He decided to give her IV fluids which seemed to help, then he was kind enough to drive her there so his tech could carry the IV bag. I think that saved her life. The surgeon at the hospital said she's a little miracle dog to have survived that much blood loss. He operated on her and she's in recovery now. I'm so relieved and so thankful to these vets. I'm a single mom, and was laid off from my job 6 weeks ago. I'm asking for anybody who thinks they could help me with her bills. With 2 vets involved, it's going to be steep. I know it's a lot to ask, and I hate that I am, but I just don't have anywhere else to turn

Mom called the hospital where Lucy was and they were able to repair her jugular vein and surrounding muscle. It's going to coast $1100. If you can donate or bid on the auction they are having for Dinks Fund it will really help us save more dogs in need.
Thanks,
Lily

I've had it since August but the 'puter was broken and then all sorts of stuff but today Mommy fluffed me up and I tried out my Tira Banks look. It is just so beautiful and so very comfortable to wear!

Happy Birthday Rhett

Today is my friend Rhett's 5 year old birthday. He has his story on our www.collapsingtrachea.com page cause he has collapsing trachea. Rhett was only 2 pounds over weight and those two pounds put pressure on his trachea and he stopped breathing. He really scared his mom and after the doctor saved him, she put him on a diet of Solid Gold Holistique Blenz and he got down to his proper weight and now he is doing good. He has allergies too but his mom has all kinds of air filters in his house now so he is fine. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RHETT! Enjoy your bath, my mom told me that your mom said she was going to give you one today so you would smell real pretty for your party.
If I lived closer I would come to it too.

Mini another Liver Shunt Yorkie

Today Mom got the story of Mini so she wanted me to put her story up so you could see how cute she is. Her foster Mom, Barbara wrote this for her.
Love,
Lily

Mini was surrendered to YTNR in early July of 2008 as she was diagnosed with Liver Shunt. Mini’s family, who lived in Las Vegas at the time, was getting ready to move to Australia and didn’t think it would be a good idea to take her as she would have had to spend time in quarantine. They loved her a lot so it was very heartbreaking to have to leave her behind but they wanted to do what was best for her. They even drove her from Vegas to TN so she would be comfortable and they could spend more time with her.

Mini had surgery on August 22 and what the doctors at UT thought was a single shunt turned out to be multiple shunts. It was very disappointing and upsetting to get that news.

When Mini came to us she was extremely shy as she hadn’t been socialized much with other people and not at all with other dogs. She hid behind the recliner in our living room for two days before she finally started coming out and sitting with us. Within a couple of weeks she became part of the family and was running and playing with the other dogs and getting just as excited as the rest when someone came to the door. On October 6th I flew with Mini to Boston where she was adopted by two wonderful ladies who had fallen in love with her picture when they saw it on the website. In the updates I have received they tell me that she adjusted to her new home fairly quickly, was already playing with them, her old toys and the new ones they bought that first evening, and that she just loves going for car rides and meeting all of their friends. We miss her but know that she has gone to a wonderful home where she will get the care and attention she deserves.

Have a good day,
Barbara

Remembering Tucker Jermaine Picklesimer

Tucker brought lots of joy to the Picklesimer family. He was adopted by Ken, Angie, Erin and Emily Picklesimer in February 2002. He was rescued from the
streets of Kentucky with his girlfriend named Suzie Q. When Tucker wanted you to know how much he loved you, he would give a big grin. He was very laid back and easy to love. He captured our hearts when at the rescue home he was the last of 7 to run into the living room to greet us. He always took his time. He wasn't always sure about the outfits his family would dress him in, but he sure loved his stroller and back pack he was carted in when his knees begin to fail. Tucker was our fury family member and friend and we will miss him greatly. Thank you Tucker for 61/2 wonderful years!

Progress report on Kirby and his Liver Shunt Surgery

My mom was really excited to get a new report on Kirby this morning so she told me to run real fast to my blog spot and tell everyone how he is doing. His foster mom says he is wundrful and sweet and is feeling so much better. He is not having anymore seizures and the doctor did a really good job fixing his liver shunt.
My mom says it's really important to have people run a bile acids test before they buy a new puppy cause it is such a big problem with lots of breeds right now.
Kirby's surgery was $1600.00 and you can go to our web page and donate money if you want to help us pay for Kirby's surgery. His foster mom works for a company that has matching funds so she donated money and her company matches her donation. That's really special of them.

Ellie's foster mom, Barbara, sent new pictures of Ellie and told us that she is doing really well after her liver shunt surgery. She doesn't throw up anymore and she has so much energy that it's hard to keep her quiet so that her stitches will heal. I miss playing with Ellie, she lived with me for a while and we became very good friends. I am happy that she is doing so well. Thank you to Dr Tobias at the University of Tennessee for making her better.

Here is my friend Miss Scarlett, she is modeling one of the pretty dresses that our good friend Corrine makes for our Yorkie Angel Boutique. All the money from the things they have in their store goes to helping pay for medical expenses that Yorkie Rescue needs for medical expenses for the dogs that they find,. Many of them need to have their teeth cleaned and shots (ouch!) and sometimes things that are more serious like what happened to poor Barkley and Ellie that had to have her liver shunt surgery. There are lots of fun things in the Boutique so ask your mom to please take you shopping so you can help the yorkies that don't have loving homes like you do.

Happy 15th Birthday Rocky!

Mom got the bestest email from one of the family's that adopted one of our rescue dogs. He's going to be having his 15th year old Birthday this month and they wanted us to know how much they loved him. We are hoping that they will send us a picture and we will post that later if it comes. Here is what Mary Beth wrote to us:

"Just a short note from the Robinson/Hall family in Baltimore to let you know that Rocky, the gentle old man you sent home with us that summer day four plus years ago is still with us and is turning 15 this month.

If you even need anyone to speak to the blessing of adopting an older rescue, just let us know!!!

mary beth

P.S. Marcus is still with us, too, as blonde as ever, though the "pee of joy" is much better controlled!!!"

Special people adopt older yorkies and this is just one example of the love that Rocky found in his new and forever home.

Mom got another call about a little dog in Florida that may have a liver shunt. He is so sick that he couldn't pick his head up from the pillow. After he got into a foster home his foster mom hand fed him his food until he could sit up. Today he is having a Bile Acids test to see if he has a liver shunt. His name used to be Pal but his foster mom changed it to Kirby.
UPDATE:
Kirby had his bile acids test and they found out that yes he did have a liver shunt so his foster mom did some research and found a doctor in Florida that would give a discount to Yorkie Rescue to fix Kirby. He is doing better and his foster mom is going to send new pictures of him soon so we can show you how much better he is feeling now.
Love,
Lily

Bentley was a good boy and went outside in his back yard to go potty, while he was there a deer jumped over the fence and kicked him in the chest. His mom heard him cry and ran to pick him up, the deer’s hoof had split his chest wide open and you could see his heart beating. At the emergency, the vet took an x-ray and it showed that he also had two broken ribs and it was highly unlikely that he would live through the night. Bentley’s mother is a single mom with two kids and her family helped as much as they could but the bill was nearing $1700.00 and the vet needed to be paid. Dinks Fund was able to help and his mother will be making contributions every month to help put some of the money back into the fund. Your help with this bill will help this mother and these darling kids that love Bentley.
October 17
My mom talked to Bentley's mom today and found out that he got his staples out yesterday. He was so good that they didn't even have to give him anything to make his sleepy. He is feeling really good and gets to be with his kids. Today he got to ride to school with them and that's one of his most favorite things to do.

This is Ellie. My mom picked her up from her family that couldn't take care of her because she had a liver shunt and was very sick. We had to take her to the University of Tennessee and Dr Karen Tobias operated on her and put an ameroid constrictor on her liver shunt to make her better. Liver Shunt is a hereditary defect that lots of little puppy's in lots of breeds are getting now because people aren't being careful. Ellie's mom and dad shouldn't have any more babies cause they are carrying the gene for liver shunt. Most people don't know that they should have a bile acids test done on a puppy before they buy it just to make sure that there is not a liver shunt in their new puppy. Elllie is going to stay with one of my mom's friends Barbara, she likes to take care of liver shunt baby's after they have their operation. Ellie might get to go home from the hospital tomorrow if she is doing good. I loved playing with her when she was here with me. We are friends.

Last Line of Defense

One day, my sister Esperansa and I went to Stephanie Chapman's house to have our picture taken with her. Stephanie and her husband Nathan were giving one of her songs to Yorkie Rescue to help them make money for medical expenses for the rescues that mom and her friends save.
Stephanie liked me best cause I'm small and cute and sort of a tomboy. If you notice even though mom fixed my hair perfectly that day for these pictures I managed to squiggle my bow off to the side before this picture was taken. This was the one Stephanie liked best Oh, so that made me a cover girl. Esperansa's picture is on the back. You wouldn't believe what Stephanie and Nathan did...they gave Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue 1000 CD's of her song "The Last Line of Defense" to sell in the Yorkie Angel Boutique.
